Four students, one river, and the people who live alongside it.
About us
We spent this term documenting life along a single bend of the Thompson River. None of us had made a documentary before. We started with a question — who actually uses this river, and what does it mean to them? — and answered it with a camera, two recorders and a lot of walking. Everything on this site is our own work.

Meet the team
Four students, four jobs — say hello.
Sam Rivera
Producer and interviewer
Sam is a second-year Journalism student from Prince George. He set up most of the interviews on this site and learned the hard way that wind noise is real. Off campus he coaches junior rowing.
Priya Anand
Photographer
Priya studies Visual Arts and shot every photograph in the gallery on a borrowed film camera. She photographed the same bend of the river fourteen times to show how differently it reads at 6am and 6pm.
Jonah Kim
Sound and video editor
Jonah handles the audio and video edits for the group. He built the transcripts on the audio page because, in his words, “a story nobody can read is a story half told.”
Maddie Toews
Writer and editor
Maddie writes the long-form pieces and edits everyone else’s. She is completing a minor in Environmental Studies and keeps the group honest about the difference between a fact and a good line.
