Six mornings at the boat launch

The boat launch is a slab of concrete, a gravel lot and a sign about invasive mussels. Between 6am and 8am it is one of the busiest places in the neighbourhood, and almost nobody who is not there knows it.

Day one: two anglers, a woman walking three dogs, and a retired millwright named Dennis who has swum here every morning since 1998, including the winter he had pneumonia. “Not that winter, actually,” he corrected us later. “My wife hid my towel.”

Day four: nobody, because it rained sideways. We stayed anyway and recorded twenty minutes of rain on the water. It is the best audio we captured all term — you can hear it on the audio stories page.
